Thornton Heath is high on the borough league table for anti social behaviour
Recent crime statistics have revealed that the majority of areas in Croydon are seeing a rise in the number of anti social behaviour offences being reported to police.
Thornton Heath has seen a rise and fall in the number of anti-social behaviour offences but sits fourth in the league table behind Croydon town centre, Broad Green and Selhurst.
The majority of the incidents of anti social behaviour happen in and around Thornton Heath High Street.
During the three-month period, across the borough’s 25 wards a total of 1,809 anti social behaviour offences were reported to police.
March was the worst month out of the three with 673 offences being recorded by police – an increase on the 586 offences which were reported in January.
In Thornton Heath in January a total of 43 anti social behaviour offences were reported to police with 11 of these offences happening in Brigstock Road.
In February this figure dropped to 24 incidents. However, the statistics from March show that the number of offences rose to 37 bringing the total over the three months to 104.
Anti social behaviour is described as including causing a personal, environmental and nuisance. Specific details are not given of the Thornton Heath offences. However, anti social behaviour is likely to include: drinking, fighting, loud music, and vandalism.
Bensham Manor fared considerably better and appears 12th in the league table with 65 anti social behaviour offences in the three months of the year with 31 in January, 22 in February and 12 in March.
-The Thornton Heath Safer Neighbourhood team’s Met police web site is soon to get a new feature which will allow locals to voice their concerns.
As residents of the ward this will enable locals to tell the police more about issues that concern them.
