Winning five games out of eight to start the season put Streatham-Croydon Rugby Football Club in a fantastic position to realise their dreams of promotion to the top flight of the Surrey 1.
The players really rallied around each other to get a number of wins towards the end of the season, although this came too late and they finished the season in a solid mid-table position.
At the start of the season the team would have been disappointed ending up in the middle of the pack but injuries played a damaging role to their title hopes.
They faced losing a number of influential players including Robb Montgomery who was dominating in the scrum and Josh Smith who was having an excellent season at number eight but was ruled out for a part of the season with a shoulder injury.
Although Streatham’s season did not end in promotion it has shone a light on some of the rising stars in their ranks, with relative rookie Ibrahim Campbell having a strong season at wing totalling over 10 tries this season.
The forwards have had some of their own top performers with Max Thomason making a real impact on the pack. They also had a successful and enjoyable tour to Madrid and look forward to welcoming their hosts on May 12.
Streatham-Croydon will be working incredibly hard over the summer to put themselves in the best possible position to hit the ground running next season. Summer training and pre-season starts again in August and the club always welcomes new players of any ability. This will be followed by the women’s unders vs overs. At 3pm, the men will be back on centre stage, hosting Torrelodones, who are visiting from Madrid.
There will be a BBQ and bar open all afternoon and it will be a great day for the club – so do get down to watch..some rugby!
